Driving to Heathrow

Travelling to London Heathrow Airport by car can be useful when you have luggage or are starting somewhere without a convenient rail connection. If you drive your own vehicle, compare the parking products at Heathrow by terminal, transfer time and booking conditions. For an early flight after a long journey, an overnight airport hotel may be worth considering. Check what the room or parking package includes and how you will reach the terminal in the morning.

Coaches and airport connections

National Express coaches connect Heathrow with London Victoria and other destinations across the UK. The Central Bus Station is between Terminals 2 and 3, with signposted pedestrian connections to the terminal buildings. Check your operator’s exact stop before travelling, as some services use different terminal locations.

If you are using Terminal 4 or 5, check whether your coach serves that terminal directly. Where you need the central area, follow Heathrow’s current instructions for the free interterminal rail connection and allow time to reach the coach stop.

Hotel Hoppa operates separately from the main intercity coach network, linking selected hotels near Heathrow with the airport. Check the hotel’s route and terminal stop before booking; coverage is not the same for every hotel or terminal.

For a group journey, compare the operator’s current group ticket or request a quotation for the route and date. The total will depend on the number of travellers, ticket conditions and any luggage requirements. Check which services are included before making onward plans.

RailAir coaches link Reading railway station with Heathrow. The Reading service runs up to every 20 minutes and serves Terminals 2, 3 and 5. Check the timetable for early or late journeys and follow the RailAir instructions for the correct boarding stop.

Passengers travelling to Terminal 4 should check the current free interterminal connection from their coach’s arrival point. Allow time for the transfer and follow the airport signs for the appropriate rail service.

RailAir fares depend on the ticket and travel arrangements. Check the current price, any available group offer and the conditions for changes or return travel when booking.

If you use a wheelchair, contact RailAir where necessary to confirm that your chair can be accommodated and to discuss any assistance needed. Checking the vehicle and boarding arrangements before booking is especially useful for larger or powered wheelchairs.

Private car transfers to Heathrow

A pre-booked private car can take you from an agreed address to your Heathrow terminal without a public-transport interchange. Choose the vehicle around your passenger numbers and luggage, confirm the pickup time and allow for road traffic when planning the journey.

London Airport Transfer can help arrange a vehicle suited to your route and luggage. Confirm the current fare, meeting point and journey details before travel. To book a private transfer, send your requirements through the booking page.

Hotel Hoppa provides scheduled connections between participating Heathrow hotels and Terminals 2, 3 and 5. Check the route for your particular hotel, the boarding stop and the current fare on the operator’s website.

For any shared hotel shuttle, confirm the route, intermediate stops and pickup arrangements before relying on it for a flight. Leave time for waiting and road conditions, and check luggage provision with the operator.

Prices for hotel transport depend on the service, date and party size; ask whether a group or return option is available. Transfers from your hotel may be arranged through the hotel itself or booked separately. Compare the meeting point, operating hours, luggage allowance and total price, especially if you are staying in central London rather than close to Heathrow.

Check the complete route and current timetable, and read the fare conditions: refund rights and group discounts depend on the ticket purchased.

Rail operators serving London and the wider country include c2c, Chiltern Railways, LNER, East Midlands Railway, Great Western Railway, London Northwestern Railway, South Western Railway, Southeastern, ScotRail, Avanti West Coast and Thameslink. Choose the operator and interchange appropriate to your destination rather than assuming every service runs from Heathrow.

Heathrow Express

Heathrow Express links the airport with London Paddington. The journey to the Terminals 2 and 3 station takes about 15 minutes, with trains generally every 15 minutes. Terminal 1 no longer handles passengers. For Terminal 4, a connecting rail service is needed; Terminal 5 has direct Heathrow Express trains. Check the timetable for your journey.

Heathrow Express prices vary by ticket type and purchase conditions. Compare the current options for your date, including any advance fares, and check the timetable before travelling.

Elizabeth line

The Elizabeth line connects Heathrow Terminals 2/3, 4 and 5 with central London stations. It is useful for journeys beyond Paddington, but the terminal served depends on the train. Check the destination display before boarding.

Terminal 5 also has direct Elizabeth line services. Confirm that the train you choose is going to the correct terminal, particularly when travelling towards Heathrow.
