Useful information
Gatwick South Terminal Guide
South Terminal is Gatwick’s original passenger terminal and serves domestic and international flights, including British Airways services. Always confirm the terminal shown for your own flight before travelling.
South Terminal provides facilities for business travellers, families and passengers who need assistance. Arrange any required support with your airline in advance and allow time to reach the appropriate help point.
Both Gatwick terminals offer Wi-Fi, left luggage, currency exchange and other practical services. Check the location, opening hours and conditions of the service you need.

Check-in
Check the flight information screens for your airline’s desks. Complete check-in and bag drop before security. Gatwick’s usual check-in opening times are listed below, but confirm the precise times and deadlines with your airline:
- Long-haul flights: usually 4 hours before departure
- European flights: usually 3 hours before departure
- UK and Ireland flights: usually 2 hours before departure
Self-service check-in
Online check-in and airport self-service kiosks are offered by some airlines. Check whether these options apply to your booking and follow the airline’s instructions for boarding passes and checked baggage.
These airlines were listed in the original 2014 material. The list is historical and does not establish today’s terminal assignments or check-in options. Use your airline’s current flight information when planning your journey:
- Aurigny
- Northwest Airlines
- Norwegian.no
- Sterling
- Virgin Atlantic Airways
Online check-in
These airlines were listed in the original 2014 material. The list is historical and does not establish today’s terminal assignments or check-in options. Use your airline’s current flight information when planning your journey:
- Aer Lingus
- Air Malta
- Aurigny
- Flybe
- EasyJet
- Monarch Airlines
- Ryanair
- TAP Air Portugal
- Virgin Atlantic Airways
Remember: boarding information at Gatwick is shown on the flight screens, so do not depend on a loudspeaker announcement. Boarding often begins 45–60 minutes before departure; follow the timing and gate instructions for your own flight.
Arrivals is signposted throughout the terminal. Consult the current map for directions and live flight information for any changes to the expected arrival time.
An international connection may involve entering the public terminal, passing border control, collecting baggage and checking in again. Confirm the procedure and any transit or entry-document requirements for your itinerary with the airline and relevant authorities.
For a domestic-to-international connection, check in advance whether you need to collect and recheck baggage. Customs, transit and entry requirements depend on your journey and documents, not simply on the terminal you use.
Left luggage is provided before security by Excess Baggage Company. Current published South Terminal hours are 04:00–22:00. Confirm the hours and storage charge for your travel date.
