London airport transfer prices
London is a fascinating city full of character and remarkable sights, and is often seen as one of Europe’s most modern capitals. Choosing your transport carefully helps you make the most of your first impression of this extraordinary city.
The fixed price for your transfer depends on the destination and exact address.
What affects the price
In England, pre-booked private hire and licensed metered services are different ways of travelling by car. Prices and standards of service vary considerably between providers. Several factors affect the cost of a journey in London:
- the type of transfer company;
- the time of the journey, including daytime or night-time and weekdays or weekends;
- the service arrangements;
- the vehicle class;
- the payment method.
Visitors to London should be cautious about unusually low fares. Booking at the lowest possible price can bring unwelcome surprises: the car may arrive very late or fail to turn up at all. The standard of service and the vehicle’s condition may also fall short of expectations.
You need to get from central London to an airport and choose a low-cost car service to save money. The dispatcher takes your booking and confirms the details, but gives no assurance that the car will arrive on time. If it is delayed or does not arrive, you lose valuable time and risk missing your flight.
It is your first visit to London and you are unsure how to reach your hotel. Suppose you find a car near the airport on the day. Is the driver trustworthy, and how well do they know the city? What condition is the vehicle in? You will have to establish these details for yourself.
You need to travel straight from the airport to a business meeting. You choose a cheap car service and go to the waiting area, but the driver is late. You are left waiting for hours or contacting another company. An unreliable operator can leave you frustrated and with a poor impression of your transfer.
What you need to know
Transfer prices in London vary between companies. If good service matters to you, an unusually cheap option may be a risk. Use the official booking channels of companies with the necessary licences to operate. You can then arrange an airport meeting and a comfortable car to your chosen address.
London’s licensed black cabs operate a separate metered service, with fares set by Transport for London. The following metered fares do not apply to pre-booked transfers with London Airport Transfer:
- the minimum metered fare is £4.40;
- the final fare depends on distance, journey time and the tariff in force;
- tariff 1 applies on weekdays from 05:00 to 20:00; other TfL tariffs apply in the evening, at night, at weekends and on public holidays.
The relevant TfL tariffs apply at weekends, on public holidays and at night. Tipping is voluntary: 10% is not a compulsory addition to the metered fare.
A fixed-price private transfer can offer good value in London. Agreeing the fare in advance, rather than travelling on a meter, can help you save money while enjoying a quality service.
