From the first meeting to the family handover

A personal chaperone flies with your child

We collect your child from school or their family, help at the airport and travel with them on the same flight. At the destination, we hand them over in person to their parents or a nominated adult. The route and chaperone are agreed in advance.

Support for different journeys

When an adult is needed throughout the journey

It is not always possible to collect your child yourself. Rather than finding separate people for the ground journey and flight, you can arrange the whole trip with LAT.

Home for the school holidays

We collect your child from a member of staff at their UK school and accompany them until they meet their family at the destination airport.

From Europe to the UK

A chaperone can fly to an agreed city, collect your child from their parents and return with them to school or family.

Journeys with several stages

Ground transfers and any connecting flights are discussed before tickets are purchased. Every leg must be suitable for travelling together.

When your child needs support

The designated chaperone helps your child find their way through the terminal and stays with them during the flight. We discuss how they will be introduced to your child in advance.

Clear travel arrangements

How accompanied flights work

  1. Discuss the journey

Tell us your child’s age, travel dates, route and where they need to be collected.

  2. Agree the chaperone and flight

We assign a chaperone and confirm the tickets, documents and person meeting your child.

  3. Collect your child

We meet the nominated adult and begin the agreed journey.

  4. Fly together

We help at the airport and travel with your child on the same flight.

  5. Hand over to the family

We meet the receiving adult in person and confirm the handover.

More than help at check-in

What the chaperone does

After the agreed meeting, your child does not have to manage each stage of the journey alone. The adult helps with luggage and airport procedures, proceeds to boarding as a passenger and continues the journey with your child.

Before the trip, you receive the chaperone’s name and contact details. We confirm who will hand your child over at the start and who will receive them on arrival.

Service pricing

One quote for the whole journey

Accompanied flights are quoted individually. This is a separate booking, not an extra charge for help at the check-in desk.

From the UK to family

On request

We agree collection from school or home, the shared flight, the handover and the chaperone’s return journey.

Flying out to collect your child

On request

The quote takes account of the adult’s outbound flight to the family, the return journey with your child and any necessary ground transfers.

Connections and special schedules

Bespoke quote

Before confirmation, we assess the entire itinerary, connection times and whether an overnight stay may be needed.

Before payment, you receive a breakdown of the booking and the agreed total price. The quote specifies who will buy your child’s ticket, which expenses are included and how changes will be charged. Standard airport arrival or departure assistance prices do not apply to accompanied flights.

Before confirmation

Preparing for the journey

We first confirm whether the route can be arranged and what information is needed. You do not need to send passport details in your initial message.

Route and dates

Where to collect your child, flights, connections and the handover location.

Tickets and seats

The same flight, requirements for a shared or linked booking, and seating together.

Travel documents

Documents for your child and the accompanying adult, consent, entry and transit requirements.

Who will meet your child

The name, telephone number and meeting point for the parents or another nominated adult.

Your child’s needs

Age, luggage, child car seat and any particular requirements to discuss.

A personal chaperone is not the airline’s UM service. The adult travels on their own ticket. Before buying tickets, the operating airline’s requirements and the documents needed for the whole route must be confirmed. For a child travelling abroad with another adult, parents arrange the necessary consent from those with parental responsibility or the appropriate court permission. Requirements in the countries of departure, arrival and transit are checked separately.

Parents know how the journey is progressing

Updates at key stages

We agree who should receive updates when your child is collected, ready to fly and has arrived. After handing your child over to the receiving adult, we confirm that our service is complete.

Continuous contact on board is not promised: messages are sent when a connection is available and the flight rules allow it.

Good to know

Questions about accompanied flights for children

Families need to know not only who will fly with their child, but also where the chaperone’s responsibility starts and ends. We record these handover points, contacts and next steps when preparing the journey.

Tell us about your situation before buying tickets. This makes it easier to agree suitable flights, seating together and the in-person handover arrangements.

From what age can a child travel with a chaperone?

We do not set a single age limit for every journey on this page. Availability is agreed according to your child’s age and needs, the route and the operating airline’s rules. Having an adult with a ticket does not remove documentation or booking requirements.

Who will accompany my child?

A specific adult chaperone is assigned to the agreed journey. Before confirmation, we provide their name and contact details and discuss the route and handover. They are a LAT chaperone, not a member of the airline’s cabin crew.

Can a chaperone fly to another country to collect my child?

Yes, we can discuss travel to an agreed European city. The adult collects your child from their family, flies with them to the UK and accompanies them to the nominated receiving adult. The destination, dates and complete itinerary are confirmed individually.

Who buys the tickets and pays for the chaperone’s return journey?

We agree the purchasing arrangements before payment. The adult needs their own ticket for the shared flight; travel to collect your child and the return journey are also included in the quote. Ticket costs are not automatically included in the fee for the chaperone’s work. We coordinate the flight, booking and seating for your child and the chaperone together.

How is my child handed over at the destination?

We agree the receiving adult’s name and contact details, the meeting point and identity-check arrangements in advance. The chaperone meets them in person and confirms the handover to parents. Your child is not left alone at the terminal exit; any change to the person meeting them must be agreed.

What happens if the flight is delayed, cancelled or changed?

The chaperone stays with your child until the agreed handover to a responsible adult. The next steps are discussed with parents and the airline: another flight, a return journey or an overnight stay if needed. Terms for additional time and costs are recorded when booking; the scheduled end time does not mean your child will be left alone.
